Specialist Landon Ross (2nd from left), 22, of Salem, says goodbye to his buddies in the pre-dawn Tuesday, Sept 7, 2004 before getting on a convoy to the Baghdad airport to begin his trip home. Ross is leaving his brother, Layne, 21, at Patrol Base Volunteer where they both have been members of Charlie Company. The older Ross brother is leaving because he has completed his active duty commitment with the Oregon National Guard. Though Layne will also depart before the Guard completes its deployment, he will still be in Iraq for two more months.
